Starting Up Your Hot Tub

  1. Make sure spa power is shut off, the filters have been removed, and the spa is clean.

  2. All water contains some metals and minerals which is determined by the calcium level. If the calcium is too high it could cause scaling. If it too little and it could cause foaming and cloudy water. Calcium levels should be maintained between 150 – 250 ppm in hot tubs. If your fill water tests above 150 add 16 oz. of SpaEase Stain & Scale (or 8oz. of Protection Plus) each time you fill the spa. If your fill water tests above 300 you may want to also add 1 oz. of Protection Plus (or 2oz of Stain & Scale) each week. If you have soft water below 150 you need to add Calcium Increaser. See “Balancing Your Water”.

  3. Once the spa is filled, turn on the power and install the filter cartridges. If they have been used then make certain to clean them thoroughly.

  4. When the water reaches your desired usage temperature, use Test Strips to make certain the pH, Alkalinity, and Hardness of your water is at the proper levels. If corrections are required see section titled “Balancing Your Water”.

    • The pH level should always be between 7.2 to 7.8 ppm.

    • The Alkalinity level should be between 80 to 120 ppm

    • The Hardness level in a hot tub should be between 150 to 250 ppm. Swimming pools, due the coolness of the water require hardness levels from 200 to 400.

  5. Select and add sanitizer. For assistance is the selection see “Choice of Sanitizers”

WEEKLY MAINTENANCE OF YOUR WATER CHEMISTRY

  1. Test pH, Alkalinity, Sanitizer, and Hardness regularly especially on new spas.

  2. Add Sanitizer as required

  3. Add 2 oz. of SpaEase Natural and Clear

  4. Remove & clean filters using SpaEase Instant Filter Cleaner: see section “Filter Care”

HOW TO PROPERLY DRAIN AND FILL YOUR HOT TUB

IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER
